Placemat Clutch

As promised on the main blog page, here is the tute for the Placemat Clutch.

************Please read the entire page before starting************

Materials:
1. A placemat of course.
2. Scissors
3. Sealant, heavy duty tape, or you machine set on a straight stitch.
4. A closure of some sort
5. Embellishment (Optional)

This is the first clutch I made from a leather placemat purchased from Wal-Mart for $3.00.
First:
Measure the midsection of the bottom. This where the closure will go.
Add the strip of sealant and turn up the bottom. (If you are sewing, turn up about an inch and stitch.)

Now, fold up the bottom to the depth you want the 'bag' part to be. Measure. Cut strip to size; seal (or stitch).

Now, let's find the mid point of the top. Insert the other part of your closure. Add strip. Fold and seal (or stitch).

Can't seem to flip photo.

If you pay close attention, you will see were I had placed the first closure too close to the edge of the inside. It is supposed to be like the second photo (that is up side down).

Next:

This one won't flip either.
This is why the closure doesn't go towards the edge. Instead it goes further down so the flap will almost reach the bottom of the bag.

Trying to see which embellishment I want to use. This on is too plain.

Too small.

I like.

So, I layered the two buttons and super glued them together. Then I super glued them to the lower edge of the flap. And viola!

 Let there be clutch!

Have fun making your own clutch. Email me the results to GossipNSew@AOL.com so I can post them!
